Seasonal color analysis is a system for matching the colors you wear to the colors you are. Every complexion has three measurable properties: an undertone (whether your skin leans warm and golden, cool and pink-blue, or genuinely neutral), a contrast level (how much lightness difference there is between your skin, hair and eyes), and an overall depth and clarity. Colors that share those properties harmonize with you — skin looks even, eyes look brighter, and people say "you look well." Colors that fight them do the opposite: the garment wears you, shadows deepen, and no amount of concealer fixes what is really a color clash happening next to your face.

The idea has been around since the 1980s "Color Me Beautiful" four-season system, and the modern 12-season version is a refinement, not a fad: it acknowledges that most people are not a textbook Winter or Summer but a blend, dominated by one quality. The payoff of knowing your season is intensely practical. Shopping gets faster because most of the rack disqualifies itself; your wardrobe starts to interlock, because pieces bought inside one palette combine with each other almost automatically; and expensive mistakes — the beautiful sweater in a color you never reach for — largely stop.

Traditionally, getting "draped" by a trained analyst means an in-person session with dozens of test fabrics held under your chin in controlled light, at a price that keeps it a niche service. The AI version reads the same signals — skin, eye and hair coloring and how they relate — from a photo, and returns its verdict with the reasoning attached, so you can see why it called you warm or cool rather than taking a label on faith.

The 12-season system starts from the four familiar seasons and splits each by its dominant quality. Winters are cool and deep: Deep Winter (dark hair and eyes, high contrast — carries black and true jewel tones effortlessly), Cool Winter (blue-based, icy clarity) and Bright Winter (high contrast plus unusual brightness — the rare people who wear true fuchsia well). Summers are cool and soft: Cool Summer (rose-toned, medium contrast), Soft Summer (muted, greyed coloring that harsh brights overwhelm) and Light Summer (fair, low contrast, best in powdery pastels).

Autumns are warm and rich: Deep Autumn (dark, warm, earthy — chocolate, forest, burgundy), Warm Autumn (golden through and through — rust, olive, camel) and Soft Autumn (warm but muted — the season most often misdiagnosed as "no color suits me," when the real answer is that clear brights are the problem and softened earth tones are the solution). Springs are warm and clear: Light Spring (fair and delicate — ivory, peach, soft aqua), Warm Spring (golden and fresh — coral, warm turquoise) and Bright Spring (warm with startling clarity — poppy red, bright warm green).

Notice what the system is really encoding: three axes — warm versus cool, light versus deep, clear versus muted — and which one dominates you. That is why the analysis here reports undertone and contrast separately before naming your season. If you know you are warm-toned, low-contrast and muted, then even when two adjacent seasons are plausible (Soft Autumn versus Soft Summer is a classic borderline), you understand what actually matters when you hold a garment up to your face: keep it soft, keep it warm-leaning, skip anything icy or neon.

A human analyst drapes you in test colors and watches your face change; the AI works from the evidence in the photo itself. It examines the coloring of your skin — including the subtler signals like the tone of shadows along the jaw — your eye color and pattern, and your natural hair color, then reasons about the relationships between them: whether the overall cast leans golden or rosy, how much lightness separates your features, and whether your coloring reads as clear or softly blended. Undertone, contrast and clarity together point to one of the twelve seasons, and the analysis explains the call rather than just announcing it.

The output is built to be used, not framed: eight to ten best colors with real names ("teal," "camel," "soft white") rather than vague families, four to five colors to actively avoid with the reason, your best neutrals — the workhorse basics worth buying in multiples — and the gold-versus-silver verdict that settles years of jewelry doubt. Turn on the beauty option and it extends the same logic to makeup (foundation undertone direction, blush, lip and eye colors) and to which hair color directions would flatter rather than fight your skin.

Ask the things you actually wonder about — "can I wear black or does it drain me?", "which denim wash?", "is this why mustard looks bad on me?" — and the analysis answers them within your specific result. Light matters more than anything else. Minimal or no makeup gives the truest read, since foundation standardizes the very undertone being measured; if you color your hair, mention your natural color in the questions box, because natural hair is part of the seasonal evidence and a fresh dye job can pull the verdict off course.

Frame it simply: face and shoulders, hair visible and off the face enough to show its color, eyes open and catching the light, neutral expression, plain background if you can manage one. If two photos give you two different seasons, believe the one taken in better light — and remember the undertone and contrast reasoning carries across results, so look at what both analyses agree on. For borderline calls, rerun with a cleaner photo and ask directly: "am I Soft Autumn or Soft Summer?"
