People say holographic wrap for three different films: rainbow laser film, colour-shift film that flips between two or three colours as you walk past, and holographic chrome. Upload a photo of your car to see each look on it, then ask your installer for the exact film.
They look very different on the road.
Laser-style film that throws bands of rainbow colour. The boldest look.
Film that looks like one colour on flat panels and another on curves and edges, such as purple to green. Often sold as flip, ColorFlow or shift film. This is what most people mean by colour changing wrap.
A mirror chrome with rainbow colour in the reflections. It has the cost, care and rules questions of chrome.
A softer option: a white or light pearl that shows faint tints on the curves.
Examples from maker ranges: 3M 2080 Gloss and Satin Flip Psychedelic (GP281 and SP281), Flip Electric Coral and Flip Golden Aurora; Avery Dennison SW900 ColorFlow Lightning Ridge (purple to green), Rushing Riptide (cyan to purple) and Solar Dawn; ORAFOL Oracal 970RA Matte Green Blue 988M; TeckWrap White Pearl CK522-HD.
Ranges change and differ by region. Our previews are descriptions of the look, not these exact films.
Shift and holographic films have a direction. The installer must lay every panel the same way, or panels can show different colours side by side.
Avery Dennison rates its ColorFlow films up to 4 years on vertical surfaces and 1 year on the hood and roof (SW900 data sheet, revision dated 03/10/26), shorter than solid colours. Ask about the exact film you choose.
Colour-shift film usually adds about $600 to $1,200 to a full wrap in the US, and holographic chrome usually costs more. Our car wrap cost calculator shows the difference for your car.
Subtle colour-shift films are common. Mirror-like holographic chrome draws the most attention, and rules on reflective finishes vary by place. Keep lights and plates clear and ask your installer what is allowed where you live.
A picture helps you choose a direction. These checks help you choose the actual film.
Wrap film looks different in sun, shade and under shop lights, and a small swatch looks different from a whole car. Ask the installer to hold a sample on your paint outside.
A pink or a grey from one brand is not the same colour as one with a similar name from another. Always give the installer the brand, the film line and the colour name together.
Cast films such as 3M 2080 and Avery Dennison SW900 are made to stretch over curves. Ask which line the shop uses and how long they expect it to last on your car.
Wrap goes over sound factory paint. Chips, clear coat peeling and old repaints can show through or lift when the film comes off.
Some states and countries ask you to report a colour change to the vehicle registry, and some limit mirror-like reflective finishes. Ask your installer or the local vehicle agency.
Save your before and after picture and take it to two or three local wrap shops. Tell each one the film brand, line and colour you want, for example "3M 2080 Satin Black" or "Avery Dennison SW900 Gloss Dark Green".
Ask each shop to show you a sample of the shift film on your car, whether door jambs are included, and what the warranty covers. A picture of your own car makes it easy for them to see what you mean.
The tool draws an approximation of each colour and finish from a description. It is not the film maker's swatch, and screens show colour differently.
It is a preview, not a quote. It does not measure the car, check the paint or give prices.
Very shiny finishes such as chrome are hard to show: the reflections in the picture are invented and will look different on your street.
AI Two is not affiliated with 3M, Avery Dennison, ORAFOL (Oracal), TeckWrap, KPMF or any car maker. Brand and colour names belong to their owners and are used only to describe colours.
Colour-shift and holographic film change with the viewing angle and the light. A still picture shows one look only, so see the real film move in daylight.
Each guide runs the same tool on your own car.
Silver, gold and rose gold chrome, plus the costs.
Midnight purple, plum and purple flip.
Baby, bubblegum, hot pink and rose.
Pearl, satin and plain white compared.

The name is used for three films: rainbow laser film, colour-shift film that flips between colours, and holographic chrome. Try each on your car to see which you mean.
Usually colour-shift film, which looks like one colour on flat panels and another on the curves as you walk past. Heat-sensitive films are a different product.
Only from one angle. The real film moves between colours as you or the car move.
Examples include 3M 2080 Flip Psychedelic, Avery Dennison ColorFlow Lightning Ridge and Rushing Riptide, and Oracal 970RA shift colours. Ask your installer what they can order.
Avery Dennison rates ColorFlow up to 4 years on vertical surfaces and 1 year on horizontal ones, shorter than solid colours.
