How Does SafeAssign Detect AI?
SafeAssign is Blackboard's built-in plagiarism and AI detection tool. If your school uses Blackboard, your papers are probably going through SafeAssign. Here is how it works.
What SafeAssign Checks
SafeAssign was originally a plagiarism checker that compared submitted text against its database of previously submitted papers, web content, and academic publications. In recent updates, it has added AI detection capabilities.
The AI detection component analyzes writing patterns similar to how GPTZero works: measuring statistical predictability and sentence uniformity.
How Accurate Is It?
SafeAssign's AI detection is generally considered less accurate than Turnitin or GPTZero. It tends to flag more false positives, especially with ESL students whose writing may appear more formulaic due to language proficiency rather than AI usage.
That said, raw ChatGPT output will get flagged. The patterns are too distinctive to miss.
How to Pass SafeAssign
The same principles apply: increase sentence length variation, use natural vocabulary, break predictable paragraph patterns. Our AI humanizer handles all of this automatically.
